The four cells marked &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;X&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; would be an [[X-Wing]] if the candidate in the cell marked &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;F&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; were not present. So either there is an X-Wing, or the candidate in &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;F&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; is true. In both cases, the starred cells cannot contain a candidate for this digit. We can eliminate those candidates.&lt;br /&gt;

The eliminated candidates can only be within the box containing the fin.&lt;br /&gt;

The &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;F&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; cell is known as the [[fin]]. In this example, there could also be a candidate in &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;r5c3&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. This would be called a &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;big fin&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, but the effects are the same.&lt;br /&gt;
