Braid is a term that defines a particular type of distribution of digits in a chute. It is used in Braid Analysis.
In a braid, there is a pair of digits which repeats 3 times in the chute, while the third digit travels in the opposite direction. In other words: 2 digits belong to one strand, 1 digit to another strand. The alternative distribution pattern is called a rope.
