The one rule of Sudoku. Complete the grid in such a way that each row, column and box contain digits 1 through 9.

This rule applies to standard Sudoku. Several Sudoku Variants have alternative rules, which may mention additional constraints or other alterations.

Every constraint is derived from the rule. In turn, solving techniques are derived from these constraints.
