The Uniqueness issue is controversial. The question is whether or not the solver may assume that the Sudoku has a unique solution. There are several solving techniques that use this unique solution as a premise. However, this puts them on equal terms with a lucky guess, in which no logic is used, but where the player merely stumbles upon the solution.

Several players have stated that proving the existence of a unique solution is part of the puzzle. Others trust the puzzle maker, who guarantees this unique solution. Like many debates, this one will probably never end.
