In the context of a single cell, the solution refers to the digit that this cell contains in the solution grid.
Most of the solving techniques work for Sudokus with any number of solutions, from 0 to many, but a few rely on the presence of a single solution in their logic. Some patterns cannot appear in Sudokus with a single solution. These are the deadly patterns.
